Mariel Alem Fonseca:

  • Mariel is a PhD student in Engineering and Cambridge Trust Scholar working at the Institute for Manufacturing under the supervision of Dr Mukesh Kumar. She holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master in Engineering for Sustainable Development where she researched interventions to reduce the impact of meat through a systems thinking approach. She has previously worked in the food industry and has experience in process design and optimisation, supply chain management and data analytics. Currently, her research focuses on food supply chain resilience, particularly looking at alternative proteins, which can support the transition towards a more sustainable and ethical future.

Nadia Mod-Radzman:

  • Nadia Radzman is passionate about improving food security through her expertise in plant peptides and translating this biotechnology to the field. She studies four different plant peptide families that control various aspects of plant development. Nadia is also a founder of an early-stage startup, developing peptides that can accelerate crop improvement. Apart from her entrepreneurial and research work, Nadia is also an active steering committee member of Cambridge Global Food Security (GFS) and is involved in developing programmes and events as platforms for interdisciplinary dialogues and collaborations between different departments across the University of Cambridge to solve food security issues
