The Cambridge Mathematics Placements programme supports summer research projects for maths students within other university departments and in industry.
Mathematical research questions arise in a wide range of disciplines. If such a question has arisen in your work, we encourage you to consider hosting a mathematics student for a project. The CMP programme is primarily aimed at students who have just completed their Master’s degree (Part III), but is open to second and third year undergraduate students as well. The programme can offer some funding to support a CMP project, but at least 50% of the cost should come from the host lab or department. We anticipate the total cost of an 8-week project in 2025 will be between £3850 and £4300 depending on exact working hours and the specific student (employer National Insurance Contributions will be applied for students aged 21 and over).
If you're interested in hosting a project, read more here:

And submit a project proposal here:

Ideally, projects should be submitted by Friday 24 January 2025, but we will take late submissions.
Your project will be advertised on the CMP website and you will have the opportunity to give a short talk about your project at the Mathematics lunchtime seminar series in February and speak with interested students about the project afterwards. Once you have found a suitable student, you can support their application for funding, if necessary.
Projects received by 31 December will be listed on our website by 13 January 2025, after which we will begin to schedule speakers for the seminar series. Projects received after 31 December will be posted on the website on a rolling basis. We cannot guarantee a seminar slot for projects submitted after 24 January 2024.
Further information on the programme can be found on the website (link above). For any questions, contact the programme team: cmp@maths.cam.ac.uk
