The Gonville & Caius Admissions and Outreach team are excited to be launching our Cambridge Higher Aspirations Scheme for its fifth year, providing students in our link counties and boroughs a sustained scheme of support over the whole of their Sixth Form career.
For the Scheme, we are looking for supervisors across a range of 33 different subjects to design and deliver a series of six supervisions. Supervisors will also be invited to attend a celebration event at the end of the scheme.
During the supervisions, supervisors will be working with a small group of students who are all on course to achieve 3 As or higher at A Level, and are interested in applying to top universities. The aim of the scheme is to introduce them to what learning at Cambridge is like, expand their knowledge and academic skills, and prepare them to make a competitive application to Cambridge.
In the past, supervision courses have taken a range of forms. Supervisors often like to design a course which functions as an overview of or introduction to the relevant subject, although there is no requirement for this. You might want to design a course which is drawn from your own research interests.
Full support for supervisors will be provided throughout the Scheme, including training, safeguarding support, advice on developing projects, administrative support, and the provision of a letter of recommendation for you once the programme has been completed. Supervisors will be paid £35 per supervision, with a flat preparation fee of £35, and an additional £10.90 for a training session.
Dates for the supervisions are scheduled for:
First supervision 18th January 2025: in-person at Gonville and Caius College
Second supervision 21st January 2025: online
Third supervision 11th February 2025: online
Fourth supervision 25th February 2025: online
Fifth supervision 4th March 2025: online
Sixth supervision 18th March 2025: online
These supervisions (except the in-person supervision) will take place in the early evening.
