REMINDER: Christmas Shutdown

This is a reminder to review the important details and deadlines regarding the upcoming CEB Christmas Shutdown. Your cooperation is essential to ensure a smooth and safe closure.

Shutdown Dates:

• The Lab Block will be fully closed from 5:00 pm on Tuesday, 24th December 2024, to 8:30 am on Thursday, 2nd January 2025.
• During this time, all laboratory work is prohibited unless prearranged with Dr Jessica Fitzgibbon.

Working During the Shutdown: The deadline for submitting applications with risk assessments to work during the shutdown has now passed. If you have not prearranged access, no work will be permitted during this time. Further details are available on the intranet: CEB Christmas Shut Down | CEB Intranet

Key Dates and Deadlines:

• Limited Technical Support: Available on 23rd and 24th December, covering media preparation, glasswashing, autoclaving, and waste processing.
  • Prepare glassware for collection by 20th December to ensure processing before the holidays.
  • The media kitchen will be closed from 20th December until 6th January.
  • No media deliveries will occur during this period.

• HazChem Waste: The deadline to place HazChem waste in the yellow cabinet has now passed (9th December). If you missed this deadline, please store the waste safely in your lab until the new year. Only use the yellow cabinet as a last resort if no safe storage is available.
• IATA Shipments: Avoid shipping temperature/time-sensitive materials between 18th December and 6th January.
• Makerspace: Closed on 23rd and 24th December for an end-of-year tidy. Projects and 3D print requests submitted after 20th December will not be processed until 2nd January.

Reception, Canteen, Custodian, and Cleaning Services:

There will be no reception, canteen, custodian, or cleaning staff during the Christmas closure. Please plan accordingly, clean up after yourselves, and avoid leaving any food or perishables behind.

Reopening Details:

• The lab block will reopen at 8:30 am on 2nd January 2025, with limited technical support available on 2nd and 3rd January.
• Contact labtech@ceb.cam.ac.uk for specific requirements.

Impacted Services:

• Orders/Shipments: Delays expected for parts, chemicals, and samples during the holiday period.
• Training/Inductions: Limited availability due to staff holidays.

Unimpacted Services:

• Gases: No disruption anticipated; supply will continue as usual.
• Cryogens: Dewars will be topped up in advance to ensure continuity.

• BOC will manage LA, LCO2, and LN2 fills over the holidays (exact dates may vary).
• Note: The Department of Physics will not perform any LH or LN2 fills during the holiday period.

Energy Conservation:

Please switch off unnecessary equipment and ensure gas cylinders are closed where possible before leaving.
