The Governing Body of Downing College, Cambridge, invites applications for election to the Kim and Julianna Silverman Research Fellowship.
The fellowship is open to graduates in Physical and Biological Natural Sciences, Engineering or Computer Science from any University. The competition is open to existing post-doctoral engineers and scientists who are able to demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability and a programme of activity with the potential to improve over time the lives of others. The successful candidate will have a background that encompasses and sometimes transcends traditional academic disciplines and will have the ability to communicate the importance and value of their work to all academic communities.
Application Process
This Fellowship is aimed at post-doctoral researchers with one to three years of post-doctoral experience who can demonstrate research output beyond their doctoral research. In addition to a CV and a list of publications and patents, the application requires a four-page research statement that includes:
- a description of your post-doctoral research,
- a three-year research plan in enough detail that its feasibility can be assessed, and
- a statement of the impact you expect this work to have.
Following a panel review of all applications, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to take part in an interview process that will include a presentation of the candidate’s research proposal to a wide range of academics, followed by a panel interview. Anyone interested in applying for this Fellowship should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the competition is high.
