Next fire evacuation drill: September 4th
The next fire evacuation drill in the CEB Main Building will be on the morning of the 4th of September. During the drill, the fire alarm will sound, and everyone in the building must evacuate to the assembly point in the car park. This is an important test of our fire evacuation arrangements, and everyone in the building must take part. For a more detailed description of the evacuation procedure, please see: Fire Safety | CEB Intranet (cam.ac.uk)
Cold room cleaning
Our cold rooms are having problems with mould, so on the 8th of September they’ll be professionally cleaned. Before the 8th, check and make sure everything you own is stored in a blue box, and everything in the blue boxes is clean and mould-free.
To help the rooms stay mould-free after the big clean, everyone needs to:
• Keep the bench tops as clear as possible. Remove equipment as soon as it is not needed. Put samples away in blue boxes.
• Label all your items with a name and date. Any unlabeled items may be removed without notice.
• Check items stored in the blue boxes regularly and remove anything that's mouldy or not needed.
• Always shut and seal the door, even when you are working inside. The longer the door is open, the more condensation, and then mould, develops.
• Don’t leave absorbent materials like cardboard in the rooms. This may be thrown away without notice.
• Please clean up any spills or mess immediately.
Keep lab materials in the Lab Block
Someone was recently spotted wearing purple gloves to carry lab materials in through the front door, using their gloved hands to touch the door. This is not acceptable for several reasons:
• No one should wear gloves or other lab PPE in the Office Block.
• When transporting materials outside of the laboratory, they must be cleaned or packaged so that they are safe to handle and there is no need to wear gloves.
• Even in the labs, gloves must not touch doorhandles and other surfaces people touch with bare hands.
• All lab materials should be brought in through the lab entrance by Stores, and not in via the Reception.
