CEB has just launched the 2025/26 edition of its annual UK-wide Davidson Inventors Challenge (DIC). More than 250+ teams from across the UK have signed up. The organising team is seeking students and researchers interested in STEM outreach to support student teams as mentors and provide feedback on their projects.
If you are passionate about the subject and willing to get involved, please just sign up here by the end of October https://cambridge.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3xz7h566bmAGwce
The DIC is a STEM innovation competition focused on sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals. This outreach and widening initiative was initially set up in 2020 as a collaboration between our Department and the Association of Science, Technology and Innovation (ASTI) in Malaysia. It was launched in honour of the late Emeritus Professor John Davidson, and it is greatly supported by the IChemE with some of its professional members also mentoring the student teams.
The competition, aimed at Year 11 and 12 students in UK schools and the task involves finding solutions to address challenges in sustainability and healthcare. Participating students will choose a challenge or problem to work on and come up with a potential sustainable and innovative solution, working towards the SDG initially selected. The students working in small teams will submit a project outline and final report for mentor assessment and marking, developing valuable skills like problem-solving and critical thinking in the process.
