Speaker:  Dr. Alberto Rosello-Diez  - Department of Genetics and Physiology Development and Neuroscience, Cambridge University

The Developmental Biology Seminar Series will continue this week for this term's last talk in the Biffen Lecture Theater, Downing site, on Friday, December 6th, at 1 pm.

“Caught by the limb: new approaches to study organ growth during development and repair”

Alberto's lab moved from Australia to Cambridge in 2023 and his lab is interested in understanding how organs control size. They use limb development as a model to study how long bones grow. They use a combination of sophisticated mouse genetics and avian embryo manipulation to challenge the system and study its recovery afterwards. They also use techniques such as multi-colour lineage tracing, single-cell barcoding, spatio-temporal characterisation of proliferative and differentiation potential, and bulk and single-cell multi-omics to reveal the local mechanisms that restore tissue size and integrity, and the systemic ones that maintain body proportions.
