Date: Wednesday 15 October 2025
Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Venue: Lecture Theatre 2 - Department of Veterinary Medicine
Our neighbours at the Department of Veterinary Medicine have extended an invitation to CEB PIs, Postdocs and postgrad students to a talk by Dr Nonia Pariente, editor-in-chief of PLOS Biology.
Registration in advance is not required, but all guests will need to sign in at reception.
Abstract:
The talk will give an overview of the processes that take place in a scientific journal, from submission of a study to the final decision, be it acceptance or rejection. This will include how editors make decisions at every stage, how reviewers are selected and what is expected of them, as well as advice to navigate the process effectively as an author. There will also be tips on how to write a manuscript (such as dos and don’ts of titles and abstracts), cover letters, responses to reviewers, pre-submission enquiries and appeals.
Dr Pariente will offer an insider’s perspective on the editorial process at scientific journals—from manuscript submission to final decision. She will share insights on how editors and reviewers make decisions, and provide practical advice for authors on writing manuscripts, cover letters, responding to reviewers, and navigating appeals.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about publishing in high-impact journals and to hear directly from one of the leading voices in open-access science.
